MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511115032 A) filed by University Of Delhi, New Delhi, on Nov. 21, 2025, for 'method for synthesis of carbazole derivatives for treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.'

Inventor(s) include Dr Siddharth Gusain; Dr Chandra Bhushan Mishra; and Prof Manisha Tiwari.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a method (100) for the synthesis of carbazole derivatives for treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Further the method (100) comprising the steps of reacting carbazole with phenylchloroformate to obtain (9-ethyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)-carbamic acid phenyl ester. Further, the method (100) comprises refluxing the resulting phenyl ester derivative with hydrazine hydrate in 1,4-dioxane to obtain a key intermediate acid hydrazide. Further, the method (100) comprises coupling the acid hydrazide with a 4-substituted phenyl isocyanate or 4-substituted phenyl isothiocyanate in acetonitrile under reflux to obtain a carbazole derivative compound. Further, the method (100) comprises a step of evaluating the anti-aggregation effects of selected carbazole derivatives in a neuronal cell-based model. Further, the method (100) comprises a step of testing the inhibitory potential of the synthesized carbazole derivatives against aggregation of mutant hSOD1 proteins selected from A4V, G85R, and G93A."
