MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517044986 A) filed by Nippon Steel Corporation, Tokyo, on May 9, for 'method for smelting steel.'
Inventor(s) include Okayama Atsushi; and Kitahara Shuma.
The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Provided is a method for smelting steel in which are successively performed: a first dephosphorization step for performing a first dephosphorization process on hot metal that is charged in a converter type vessel and that has an Si concentration of 0.30 0.50 mass% inclusive after dilution by a cold iron source; a first intermediate slag removal step for discharging some of slag in the converter type vessel after the first dephosphorization step; a second dephosphorization step for adding after the first intermediate slag removal step an iron oxide source of an amount at which the hot metal temperature in the converter type container decreases by 15 45??C inclusive and performing a second dephosphorization step of the hot metal with the mass ratio (CaO/SiO2) between the CaO concentration and the SiO2 concentration in the slag in the converter type vessel being 0.8 or more and less than 1.5; a second intermediate slag removal step for discharging some of the slag in the converter type vessel after the second dephosphorization step; and a decarburization process for performing a decarburization process on the hot metal in the converter type vessel after the second intermediate slag removal step."
The patent application was internationally filed on Oct. 12, 2023, under International application No.PCT/JP2023/037012.
