MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517005601 A) filed by Zhengzhou Non-Ferrous Metals Research Institute Co. Ltd. Of Chalco, Henan, China, on Jan. 23, for 'method for recovering lithium from aluminum electrolysis waste cathode.'

Inventor(s) include Chen, Kaibin; Shi, Zhirong; Du, Tingting; Liu, Jianjun; Li, Ruonan; Luo, Zhongsheng; Sun, Lizhen; Wu, Jianwei; and Jing, Quanhai.

The application for the patent was published on June 6, under issue no. 23/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method for recovering lithium from an aluminum electrolysis waste cathode, comprising: crushing waste cathode, and then washing and filtering the waste cathode to respectively obtain a first filtrate and a first filter residue; evaporating and crystallizing the first filtrate to obtain a sodium fluoride product; adding a binder into the first filter residue, carrying out mixing and forming, and then carrying out calcination and collection to obtain a graphite product and collected dust powder; carrying out lithium salt extraction on the collected dust powder by using pure water, and filtering to obtain a second filtrate and a second filter residue; drying the second filter residue to obtain a cryolite product; and adding the second filtrate into a carbonate solution to implement a lithium precipitation reaction to obtain a lithium carbonate product."

The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 05, 2024, under International application No.PCT/CN2024/080014.
