MUMBAI, India, Aug. 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517075566 A) filed by Unicharm Corporation, Ehime, Japan, on Aug. 8, for 'method for producing recycled pulp fiber, method for decomposing super absorbent polymer.'

Inventor(s) include Konishi, Takayoshi; and Ichiura, Hideaki.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 29, under issue no. 35/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The purpose of the present disclosure is to provide a method for producing a recycled pulp fiber from a mixture containing pulp fibers and a super absorbent polymer which constitute a sanitary product, the method making it possible to easily decompose and remove the super absorbent polymer and excelling in recycled pulp fiber productivity. The method according to the present disclosure is configured as follows. The method is for producing a recycled pulp fiber from a mixture containing pulp fibers and a super absorbent polymer which constitute a sanitary product, the method being characterized by comprising: a preparation step for preparing the mixture; a super absorbent polymer decomposition step for adding a compound capable of generating transition metal ions to an aqueous solution containing the mixture without adding any reducing agent to the aqueous solution, thereby decomposing the super absorbent polymer and forming the recycled pulp fiber from the pulp fibers; and a recycled pulp fiber collection step for collecting the recycled pulp fiber."

The patent application was internationally filed on Jan. 31, 2024, under International application No.PCT/JP2024/003022.
