MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102923 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 25, 2025, for 'method for producing eco friendly bio composite tableware from agricultural waste with spirulina infusion.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Harjit Singh; Darshan Sivalingam; and Srinidhi Aileni.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method (100) for producing biodegradable tableware from agricultural waste fibers and Spirulina biomass, comprising cleaning, chopping, and enzymatic treatment of agro-waste fibers to enhance bonding and flexibility. The treated fibers are blended with a binder and Spirulina biomass to form a homogeneous mixture, which is then shaped under controlled temperature and pressure into tableware items such as plates, bowls, and cups. The molded bio-composite is dried and cured to achieve structural stability and optionally coated with natural hydrophobic substances for improved liquid resistance. Finished products undergo quality control and residual by-products are recycled or composted. This method (100) produces durable, environmentally sustainable, nutritionally enriched, and fully biodegradable tableware, providing an alternative to plastic and paper disposables while promoting circular economy principles and minimizing environmental impact."
