MUMBAI, India, Jan. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102420 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 24, 2025, for 'method for producing a biodegradable gel capsule system with precise time-delayed ingredient release.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Polu Picheswara Rao; and Dr. Shubham Mishra.

The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method is disclosed for producing biodegradable gel capsules with precise, time-delayed ingredient release. The method includes solubilizing plant-derived biopolymers such as pullulan, HPMC, and alginate, blending with natural plasticizers, and casting single- or multi-layer capsule shells. Active ingredients including nutrients, probiotics, amino acids, or medications are loaded into cores or sequential reservoirs. Capsule wall thickness, hydrogel composition, and crosslinking density are controlled to achieve 1-8 hour release intervals, protecting sensitive compounds from gastric degradation and targeting intestinal delivery. Capsules are dried under controlled, sterile conditions and packaged in compostable containers. The method provides improved bioavailability, multi-phase payload release, and rapid post-use biodegradability within 75 days. In vitro, animal, and pilot human studies confirm enhanced absorption, GI survival, and safety, offering a scalable, environmentally sustainable oral delivery solution."
