MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511125554 A) filed by Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Dec. 12, 2025, for 'method for preparing nanoporous carbon electrodes derived from fish industry waste for energy storage.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the field of energy storage and, in particular, to methods for converting fish industry waste-including scales, skins, shells, and bones-into nanoporous carbon electrodes. In one embodiment, the waste is washed, dried, sorted, and milled to yield a uniform powder that is thermally treated in a carbonization chamber with an initial pre carbonization at about 300 C followed by carbonization at 700-900 C in an inert atmosphere. The resultant carbonized material is chemically activated in an activation zone using agents such as potassium hydroxide or phosphoric acid to form a hierarchical structure of micro-, meso-, and macropores. Optional heteroatom doping is introduced during activation, and the doped material is processed in an electrode fabrication module to produce electrodes suitable for various battery systems."
