MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102373 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 24, 2025, for 'method for preparation of herbal-fortified mushroom substrate and cultivation of nutraceutical mushrooms.'
Inventor(s) include Lalam Manikanta; Dr. Arshdeep Singh; and Dr. Shimpy Sarkar.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a method (100) for preparing herbal-fortified mushroom substrates and cultivating nutraceutical mushrooms. Crop residues including rice straw, maize husk, and groundnut shell are pretreated (step 102) and mixed with organic supplements and aqueous or ethanolic extracts of moringa, neem, and Tulsi (steps 104-106). The fortified substrate is bagged and sterilized (step 108), inoculated with mushroom spawn, and incubated under species-specific conditions (step 110). Fully colonized substrates are transferred to cropping chambers for fruiting and harvested (steps 112-114). Mushrooms produced using this method show 15-20% increased yield, 10-12% higher protein content, and 15-18% enhanced antioxidant activity. The method (100) provides an eco-friendly, substrate-based biofortification approach that utilizes agricultural waste, enhances nutraceutical properties, and accelerates mushroom growth without post-harvest supplementation."
