MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202414090129 A) filed by Corning Incorporated, Corning, U.S.A., on Nov. 20, 2024, for 'method for preparation of 2,6-ditert-butyl-p-methylphenol.'

Inventor(s) include Wang, Yanhua; and Zhang, Xiaoshuai.

The application for the patent was published on June 6, under issue no. 23/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a method for continuous preparation of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-methylphenol in a microchannel reactor, comprising: (1) providing a first stream of material, a second stream of material and a third stream of material, wherein the first stream of material comprises p-cresol and a catalyst; the second stream of material comprises liquefied isobutene; and the third stream of material comprises a catalyst; (2) providing a first reaction zone and a second reaction zone, wherein the first reaction zone and the second reaction zone each comprise a microchannel reactor; (3) feeding the first stream of material and the second stream of material into the first reaction zone for reaction to form a first reaction stream; (4) discharging the first reaction stream from the first reaction zone, and feeding the first reaction stream and the third reaction stream into the second reaction zone downstream of the first reaction zone, thereby obtaining 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-methylphenol. The first reaction zone and the second reaction zone each have a reaction temperature of 40-160 C; and the catalyst is a strong acid catalyst. The method can reduce the overall risk in the reaction process, and increase the production capacity effectively."
