MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517051275 A) filed by Jfe Steel Corporation, Tokyo, on May 28, for 'method for predicting width of rough-rolled material, method for controlling width of rough-rolled material, method for producing hot-rolled steel sheet, and method for generating width prediction model for rough-rolled material.'

Inventor(s) include Hinata, Kosuke; Ogasahara, Tomoyoshi; Sato, Shusuke; and Takashima, Yukio.

The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The method for predicting the width of a rough-rolled material according to the present invention predicts the width of the rough-rolled material in a hot-rolling line including: a heating furnace which heats a slab; a rough-rolling mill which rough-rolls the heated slab to produce a rough-rolled material; and a finish-rolling mill which finish-rolls the rough-rolled material to produce a finish-rolled material. The prediction method includes a prediction step in which statistical information on the width of the rough-rolled material is predicted using a width prediction model acquired, through learning by a Gaussian process regression method, from data including one or more operation parameters selected from among operation parameters of the rough-rolling mill as input data and statistical information on the width of the rough-rolled material as outputted data."

The patent application was internationally filed on Oct. 10, 2023, under International application No.PCT/JP2023/036735.
