MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517051878 A) filed by Kyungpook National University Industry-Academic-Cooperation Foundation, Daegu, Republic of Korea, on May 29, for 'method for manufacturing nickel transition metal composite catalyst electrode by utilizing single-step electrodeposition and desalination combined catalyst electrode device.'
Inventor(s) include Park, Hyun Woong; and Kim, Byeong Ju.
The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a desalination combined catalyst electrode device, which is an electrolyzer composed of anode cell/BPM/[AEM/CEM]n/BPM/cathode cell, wherein: the anode cell contains a Ni/3d transition metal composite catalyst electrode while the fraction of 3d transition metal in the electrode is 0.3 or less; n is a natural number of 1 to 5 and AEM and CEM are located alternately; and the electrolyzer has a 50% desalination time (t1/2) of 2.2 to 6.4 hours and a specific energy consumption (SEC) of 1.79 to 7.03 kWhm-3 at J = 10 mA/cm-2. The present invention also provides a method for manufacturing a nickel transition metal composite catalyst electrode by utilizing single-step electrodeposition, the method comprising the steps of: forming a mixture solution of hydrates containing Ni and a 3d transition metal at a ratio of 1:3 to 3:1; immersing a Ni substrate in the solution, followed by cathode bias electrodeposition for 10 to 180 seconds; and anodizing, washing, and drying the electrodeposited Ni/3d transition metal double hydrate composite catalyst electrode."
The patent application was internationally filed on Nov. 30, 2023, under International application No.PCT/KR2023/019581.
