MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517050491 A) filed by Arcelormittal; and Form Energy, Inc., Luxembourg, on May 26, for 'method for manufacturing direct reduced iron with a low carbon content.'

Inventor(s) include Boulanov, Dmitri; Farahani, Mahdi; and Andrade, Marcelo.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A direct reduction method to manufacture a direct reduced iron product 12 having a carbon content less than 1.8% by weight and a shaft furnace exit temperature lower than 65 C. A carbon-containing cooling gas 30 is introduced into the cooling zone 3 of the shaft furnace 1 with a flow rate higher than 800Nm3/ton of Direct Reduced Iron produced."

The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 15, 2023, under International application No.PCT/IB2023/062805.
