MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411073845 A) filed by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Sept. 30, 2024, for 'method for green hydrogen generation by harvesting mechanical energy.'

Inventor(s) include Das, Raj Kumar; Sontyana, Anantha Kishore Kumar; and Newalkar, Bharat.

The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a method for green hydrogen generation by harvesting mechanical energy comprising: a) taking a fluoropolymer in a reaction vessel; b) pouring a solvent in the reaction vessel followed by sealing the reaction vessel by silicon septum; c) applying vacuum using a syringe-needle to evacuate the maximum air from the reaction vessel; d) immersing the reaction vessel into ultrasonic bath under condition for generating the hydrogen gas; e) collecting the hydrogen gas sample from the reaction vessel after the incubation period using a Hamilton syringe for gas chromatography (GC) analysis followed by evacuating the generated hydrogen gas from the reaction vessel; and f) repeating the gas sample collection for further GC analysis and evacuating the generated hydrogen gas. Developed piezo-catalyst system for water splitting offer excellent hydrogen production efficiency reaching upto ~56 mmol/g-catalyst/hour within 2 hour of ultrasonic vibration (205 W, 35 KHz) far exceeding the any reported value."
