MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517091458 A) filed by Ermafa Environmental Technologies Gmbh, Wien, Austria, on Sept. 24, for 'method for extracting valuable substances from a bauxite residue.'

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 10, under issue no. 41/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a method for extracting valuable substances from a bauxite residue, the method comprising the following steps: a) providing an aqueous suspension of the bauxite residue; b) adjusting the pH of the aqueous suspension to a value between 7.2 and 12.2; c) at least partially deagglomerating suspended mineral agglomerates of the bauxite residue; and d) separating the resulting mixture into an iron-rich fraction and at least one other, preferably silicate-rich, fraction, wherein at least one flocculant is added to the aqueous suspension, and the at least one flocculant comprises starch."

The patent application was internationally filed on Feb. 27, 2024, under International application No.PCT/EP2024/054901.
