Emotional intelligence is a critical competency for healthcare professionals, enabling empathy, resilience, stress management, and effective patient care. A total of 221 students (121 from Physiotherapy and 100 from Occupational Therapy) participated in the study. A pre-study questionnaire was administered to assess baseline emotional intelligence levels. The intervention involved teaching selected literary texts aligned with specific emotional intelligence components, including self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, stress management, empathy, and compassion. Texts such as Stephen Leacock's My Financial Career, Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge, "Udamkopakhyana" from the Mahabharata, Heinrich Boll's Action Will Be Taken, William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, The Bhagavad Gita, Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and finally a few Biblical portions were used to facilitate reflective discussions and critical analysis. Post-intervention findings indicate significant improvement in emotional intelligence domains, demonstrating that literature-based pedagogy can serve as an innovative and transformative approach in healthcare education."
