MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202414090170 A) filed by Corning Incorporated, Corning, U.S.A., on Nov. 20, 2024, for 'method for continuous preparation of ethyl 4-chloroacetoacetate in microchannel reactor.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present application relates to a method for continuous preparation of ethyl 4-chloroacetoacetate in a microchannel reactor, comprising: (1) adding a catalyst to a solution of diketene to obtain Feed A, precooling Feed A and delivering it into a chlorination reaction module of a microchannel reactor; (2) using chlorine gas as Feed B, precooling it and delivering it into the chlorination reaction module of the microchannel reactor to undergo chlorination reaction with Feed A to obtain 4-chloroacetoacetyl chloride; (3) delivering 4-chloroacetoacetyl chloride into an esterification reaction module of the microchannel reactor to undergo online esterification reaction with absolute ethanol as Feed C after 4-chloroacetoacetyl chloride passes continuously through a tubular reactor for delay reaction; and (4) conducting online quenching reaction with the use of water in a quenching reaction module of the microchannel reactor to obtain ethyl 4-chloroacetoacetate after the esterification reaction. According to the method, ethyl 4-chloroacetoacetate having a purity as high as 99% can be obtained, and rectification is unnecessary, thereby avoiding losses caused by rectification."
