During registration, the method (500) comprises capturing (502) a plurality of biometric template, thereby storing (510) each biometric template and a fusion biometric template separately in a secure database (512). During authentication, the method (600) comprises capturing (602) a single biometric trait of the user and comparing (606) single biometric trait with each biometric template stored in the secure database. Upon successful authentication of single biometric trait, the method comprises retrieving (610) remaining biometric template and regenerating (612) a reconstructed fusion biometric template. Further, the method comprises matching (614) the reconstructed fusion biometric template with the fusion biometric template stored in the secure database, and authenticating (616) the user only when successful verification of both the single biometric trait and the fusion biometric template."
