MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511116142 A) filed by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute Of Technology, Jalandhar, Punjab, on Nov. 24, 2025, for 'method and system for detecting concentrated animal feeding operation using federated learning.'

Inventor(s) include Malik, Dr. Aruna; Gunika; Sangal, Aviral; Singh, Dr. Samayveer; and Verma, Prof. Harsh Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Provided are a method (400, 500) and system (100) for detecting concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) using federated learning. The method (400) at a central server (102) comprises initializing (402) an object detection model and a semantic segmentation model, and distributing (404) to a plurality of client nodes (130). Further, the method (400) comprises receiving (406) only model updates from the client node (130), aggregating (408) the received model updates, and thereby transmitting (410) the updated global model to the plurality of client nodes. Further, the method (500) at the client node (130) received the models from the central server (102), and thereby locally training (504, 506) the models using locally stored dataset of annotated CAFO images. Moreover, the method (500) comprises computing (508) the local model update parameters, transmitting (510) the model updates, and thereby performing (512) local inference using trained models locally to provide real-time CAFO mapping results."
