MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517083991 A) filed by Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (PUBL), Stockholm, on Sept. 4, for 'method and network node for beamformed communication with a plurality of user equipment.'
Inventor(s) include Nilsson, Magnus; Goransson, Bo; Bjork, Vimar; and Jakobsson, Peter.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is a method performed by a network node (130) of a wireless communication network (100) for beamformed communication with a plurality of User Equipment, UE, (140, 145). The network node (130) comprises a plurality of antenna elements, each antenna element arranged for handling an antenna signal to be transmitted or received over a frequency band comprising a plurality of sub- bands. The method describes different ways to provide a deliberate beam squint to a beam transmitted or received by the network node (130) by applying an inter- element time delay difference to antenna signals of the plurality of antenna elements. A beam occurring this way will have different frequencies pointing in different directions due to the beam squint. Thereby, one beam could be used for reaching UEs arranged over a wider angular range, wherein the UEs (140, 145) are mapped to different frequencies depending on where in the beam squint the UEs (14, 145) are situated. The method is especially useful in uplink."
The patent application was internationally filed on July 19, 2023, under International application No.PCT/SE2023/050746.
