MUMBAI, India, Nov. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517067802 A) filed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea, on July 16, for 'method and device for wi-fi based presence detection.'

Inventor(s) include Chen, Guanbo; Zhu, Yuming; Chang, Hao Hsuan; Chen, Hao; Li, Songwei; Nguyen, Hoang Viet; and Advani, Siddharth K.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 14, under issue no. 46/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method for presence detection by a device is provided. The method comprise obtaining channel state information (CSI) related to a wireless fidelity, Wi-Fi; filtering the CSI to remove radio frequency (RF) interference; detecting for motion in a space during a first observation window based on determining whether macro-movements are present in the filtered CSI; in response to detecting the motion in the space, determining whether micro-movements and breath signals are present in the filtered CSI, during a second observation window; providing an indication that the space is occupied based on determining that the micro-movements and the breath signals are present in the filtered CSI; and providing an indication that the space is not occupied based on determining that the micro-movements and the breath signals are not present in the filtered CSI."

The patent application was internationally filed on Apr. 02, 2024, under International application No.PCT/KR2024/004229.
