MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517047430 A) filed by Hyundai Motor Company; Kia Corporation; and Kwangwoon University Industry-Academic Collaboration Foundation, Seoul, Republic of Korea, on May 16, for 'method and apparatus for video coding using cross-component prediction based on reconstructed reference sample.'

Inventor(s) include Sim, Dong Gyu; Byeon, Joo Hyung; Lee, Min Hun; Heo, Jin; and Park, Seung Wook.

The application for the patent was published on June 6, under issue no. 23/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present embodiment discloses a video coding method and apparatus using cross-component prediction based on a reconstructed reference sample. In the present embodiment, an image decoding apparatus configures a corresponding luma block of the current chroma block from a pre-reconstructed region of a luma component. The image decoding apparatus derives a filter applied to the luma component from among candidate filters and a corresponding cross-component model, on the basis of reconstructed luma reference samples of the corresponding luma block and reconstructed reference samples of the current chroma block. The image decoding apparatus filters reconstructed luma samples within the corresponding luma block by using filter coefficients according to the derived filter. The image decoding apparatus generates a prediction block of the current chroma block from the filtered reconstructed luma samples by using a cross-component model."

The patent application was internationally filed on Sept. 13, 2023, under International application No.PCT/KR2023/013735.
