The method comprises obtaining (702) point cloud data (PCD) associated with surrounding of the vehicle (104), and processing (704) at least a portion of the PCD for estimating polyline representations corresponding to boundaries of a road on which the vehicle (104) is positioned. The method comprises processing (706) the estimated polyline representations to determine an actual vehicle position on the road. The method comprises determining (710) whether the actual vehicle position deviates from a buffered trajectory associated with the vehicle (104) and upon determining that the actual vehicle position deviates from the buffered trajectory, performing (712) the minimum risk maneuver for the vehicle (104)."
