MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411071050 A) filed by Shanmugadas K P, Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir, on Sept. 19, 2024, for 'method and apparatus for enhanced atomization in the pilot mixer of a lean burn gas turbine engine.'
Inventor(s) include Shanmugadas K P; Preetam Jamod; and Ayush Divyansh.
The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The focus and advancement of the combustor technology reflects on reducing the NOx and CO emissions. The design of the fuel injectors has evolved the fuel injector to operate at lean burn combustion concept. The assembly incorporated axial and radial swirler assembly to ensure efficient mixing. The present invention relates to a novel lean burn gas turbine fuel injector involving a pilot and main mixer assembly. The pilot mixer consists of axial and radial swirler assembly which has annular fuel passage, inclined at angle with respect to center axis. The ensuring fuel jets interacts with the coflowing swirl flow generated by an air assist axial swirler assembly, and improves the mixing and atomization. In addition to this, a number of cooling passages are integrated to the fuel stem, such that the cooling air creates expanding air jets at the nozzle tip, limiting the possibilities of fuel accumulation and coking."
