MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411070729 A) filed by Shanmugadas K P, Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir, on Sept. 18, 2024, for 'method and apparatus for enhanced atomization in a lean burn gas turbine engine.'

Inventor(s) include Ayush Divyansh; Preetam Jamod; and Shanmugadas K. P.

The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The design of an aeroengine combustor is crucial to reduce the NOx and COx emission level, incorporating a fuel injector with a multi-swirler assembly that allows it to operate efficiently across a wide range of conditions. The present invention relates to a novel injector design assembly which consists both axial and radial swirlers to mix air and fuel, promoting lean burn combustion- a technique that reduces emissions and increases efficiency. The injector involves pilot and main mixer assembly. The main mixer section consists of axial and radial swirler assembly incorporating the toroidal fuel passages in injector ensuring uniform distribution of fuel and air. The fuel sub passages is surrounded by co-axially air assist passage that enhances the atomization of liquid fuel and also reduce the effect of flashback and coking at the nozzle tip point of exit."
