Inventor(s) include Mr. Raj Kumar Singh Bharti; Km. Usha; Mr. Abhishek Sati; Mr. Luqman Siddiqi; Mrs. Mamta Kumari; Mr. Yogesh Kumar; Mr. Anoj Kumar; Mr. Anil Kumar; and Mr. Nitin Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on June 5, under issue no. 23/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the ulcer-protective pharmacological activity of the methanolic extract of Pinus roxburghii (MEPR) leaves, a coniferous plant of the family Pinaceae, in albino Wistar rats. The extract is prepared by Soxhlet extraction of shade-dried leaf powder with methanol and contains flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds, alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, and volatile oils. Oral pre-treatment with MEPR at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight for seven days demonstrated significant dose-dependent gastroprotection in an ethanol-induced ulcer model, as evidenced by reduction in gastric content volume, ulcer score, and ulcer index, and elevation of gastric pH from 2.30 in control to 4.98 at the high dose. The percentage inhibition of ulceration was 44.0% and 68.5% for the low and high doses, respectively, compared to 87.5% for the standard drug ranitidine. Histopathological evaluation confirmed preservation of gastric mucosal integrity in treated groups. The invention provides a novel, cost-effective, antiulcer agent for pharmaceutical formulation."
