MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621046561 A) filed by Dr. Viral Shah; Helin Rajnikumar Patel; and Soni Khushi Naresh, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on April 11, for 'medicated lip balm formulation for palliative care of angular cheilitis and process for preparing thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a process for preparation of an antifungal drug loaded medicated lip balm, said process comprising of weighing and heating a predefined quantity of wax and petroleum jelly in water bath at 70-80 C to form a melt; mixing the melt with a predefined quantity of a clotrimazole at speed of 300-500 rpm for 5-10 minutes by using a high shear homogenizer; cooling the melt to 60-65 C; adding a predefined quantity of Ricinus oil, peppermint oil, a neutralizer and a humectant into the melt; mixing the melt again at speed 10000-12,000 rpm for 10-40 minutes by using the high shear homogenizer; cooling and pouring the melt at a temperature of 55 C and solidifying the melt at room temperature to form the medicated lip balm."
