MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541114828 A) filed by Sri Sairam Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Nov. 21, 2025, for 'medical records and patients identification using rfid.'

Inventor(s) include Abinav P L; Arunesh A; Bharathkumar A S; and Manickavasagan V.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Accurate patient identification and access to medical records are critical tasks in healthcare, and manual processes often risk errors, delays, and compromised patient safety. This project provides an engineering solution to this problem by developing an automated system for patient identification and medical record management using RFID technology. The system's hardware includes RFID tags for patients and RFID readers placed in key hospital areas, which provide the means to detect and authenticate patient identity in real time. Each reader continuously scans its environment and sends data to a microcontroller, such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, which processes the information using intelligent algorithms to identify the patient and retrieve corresponding medical records. Upon successful identification, the system provides instant access to the patient's personal details, medical history, treatment records, and emergency information. The microcontroller communicates with a secure database and a user-friendly mobile or web application, enabling authorized medical staff to view, update, and monitor patient information efficiently. The system ensures accurate identification, rapid retrieval of medical records, and reduces human error, ultimately improving patient safety and hospital workflow efficiency."
