MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641019745 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 20, for 'mechanical toothbrush containing internal toothpaste reservoir.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Mechanical toothbrush Containing Internal Troothpaste Reservoir Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanical toothbrush with an integrated toothpaste storage and dispensing mechanism, designed to deliver toothpaste directly to the brushing surface without the need for a separate tube. The device comprises a refillable liquid toothpaste reservoir located within the handle, a press-type actuator positioned at the rear end of the toothbrush, and a controlled nozzle system incorporating non-return valves (NRV) to regulate the flow of toothpaste through internal channels to the bristle area. When the user .. presses the. actuator, a.measured ameunt eftoethpaste is dispensed evenly through-the-nezzles embedded in the brush head. 'fhe invention ensures improved convenience, hygiene, portability, and controlled dosage, making it particularly suitable for daily use, travel, pediatric oral care, and users with limited hand coordination. The design also minimizes contamination and reduces wastage of toothpaste while maintaining the functional features of a standard toothbrush."
