MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541010902 A) filed by Newspace Research & Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, Karnataka, on Feb. 10, for 'mechanical system and method for controlled wing deployment in airborne payloads carried on aerial vehicle.'

Inventor(s) include Sameer Joshi; and Julius Amrit.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a mechanical system and a method for controlled wing deployment in airborne payloads carried on the aerial vehicle. The mechanical system (100) comprises a housing (102), first shafts (104), second shafts (106), a release pin (108), a stepped concentric flange (110), a lever locking assembly (112), and a bearing unit (114). The housing (102) is mounted on a fuselage of the airborne payloads. The first shafts (104) are configured for attachment to corresponding wings. Each second shaft (106) is coupled to a corresponding first shaft (104) to impart rotational motion thereto. The release pin (108) initiates deployment by axial movement. The stepped concentric flange (110) is configured with a sector gear profile (110a) for synchronised rotation, a torsion spring spiral (110b) for storing torsional energy in a stowed position, and a locking fin (110c) that retains and selectively releases rotating shafts (104, 106) for controlled deployment."
