MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311083016 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 6, 2023, for 'map pre-fetching system and method in a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Yusuf Mamajiwala; Hariharan Balakrishnan; Sammitha Bhadyala Krishnamurthy; Lars Richter; and Stephan Schmid.
The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure pertains to a system and a method for pre-fetching map data. The system and method involve obtaining, at block 802, data related to real-time position of the vehicle at pre-defined frequencies. At block 804, the distance between starting point (P1) and real-time position (P2) of the vehicle 110 is computed. Further, at block 806, a bounding box trigger distance/ threshold distance is calculated. At block 808, the computed distance is compared with the threshold distance. In case, the computed distance is found to be more than the threshold distance, then at block 810, a bounding box of the pre-defined length is created. At block 814, the bounding box can be converted to tile ID list, and at block 816, corresponding pre-fetch request can be sent to server. Further, at block 818, metadata related to the pre-fetched request is stored in a request table."
