MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049297 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 17, for 'manually operated seed drill with indexed spacing and independent seed discharge.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a manually operated seed drill (100). The manually operated seed drill (100) includes a frame (1), a seed hopper (2) supported on the frame (1) and including a feeder opening (10), a front indexing wheel (3) rotatably mounted on the frame (1) and provided with spaced slots (4), and a pawl assembly (5) operable via a first lever (6) to engage the spaced slots (4) and arrest rotation of the front indexing wheel (3) at indexed positions. A seed gate (8), operable via a second lever (9), is disposed at the feeder opening (10) and is biased to a closed position to discharge seed independently of rotation of the front indexing wheel (3). The manually operated seed drill (100) further includes a furrow opener (15) and a rear wheel positioned as a leveller (12) for covering soil over discharged seed during forward movement."
