MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531077774 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Kharagpur, West Bengal, on Aug. 14, 2025, for 'macro and micronutrients enriched vermicompost formulation and its method of preparation.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. Jhumur Majumder; Prof. Dillip Kumar Swain; and Dr. Kalikrishna Hazra.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides enriched vermicompost formulation comprising farm residues co-acting with bacteria, fungi and algae based synergistic consortia in presence of 10 % w/w bone meal supplemented rock mineral as precompost adapted for enrichment of farm residues with improved macro- and micronutrient profiles as a sustainable and effective alternative for crop production. Said synergistic consortia including microbial consortia of NPK enriching/solubilizing bacteria, cellulolytic fungi, are incorporated in the levels of 10 % v/w basis in respect of agriculture waste, and aquatic algal biomass is incorporated in 10 % w/w basis in respect of agriculture waste, favoring improved macro- and micro- nutrient profile including as macronutrient N,P,K and Ca contents as well as micronutrient contents Zn, Mn, Cu, thereby representing a promising alternative surpassing conventional vermicompost towards producing yield performance in crop harvesting nearly comparable to that of chemical fertilizers. A method according to the invention provides an early maturation period of 60 days to attain said enriched vermicompost formulation, thus offering cost-effective organic farming."
