MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511104294 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 29, 2025, for 'machine learning-based tunnel construction duration prediction system.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A machine learning-based tunnel construction duration prediction system comprising, a data acquisition module 101 configured to collect and compile construction data from tunnels, including a dataset of multiple parameters relevant to tunnel construction, a feature selection unit 102 configured to identify crucial parameters influencing tunnel construction duration, a machine learning module 103 training module configured to train a Gaussian process regression model using the selected parameters for predicting tunnel construction duration, a hyperparameter tuning module 104 configured to optimize the parameters of the Gaussian process regression model to improve predictive accuracy, a graphical user interface (GUI) 105 configured to provide real-time estimation of tunnel construction duration and enable dynamic updates of predictions during construction, the system outputs predicted construction durations with enhanced accuracy to assist project planning and management."
