MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122209 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'machine learning based sustainable cash crop recommendation system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Perepi Rajarajeswari; Richard Johnson; and Saisrujan Mishra.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method for generating sustainable cash crop recommendations. The method includes acquiring environmental parameters including soil nutrient levels (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) and climatic conditions (temperature, humidity, rainfall) for a specific agricultural region, processing the environmental parameters using machine learning algorithms trained on agricultural data to learn relationships between environmental conditions and crop suitability, and generating crop recommendations based on the analysis. The machine learning algorithms include Random Forest, Decision Trees, and Support Vector Machines. The method further includes presenting recommendations through a web-based interface (FIG. 1) configured to receive user input and display results, optimizing algorithm performance using hyperparameter tuning to achieve prediction accuracy exceeding ninety percent, and preprocessing environmental parameters through data cleaning and normalization operations."
