MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411012644 A) filed by Bennett University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Feb. 22, 2024, for 'machine learning algorithms for robotic emotional recognition.'

Inventor(s) include Prof. Ajith Abraham; and Dr. Madhushi Verma.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a robotic emotional recognition system and methods for enabling emotional recognition in a robot. The system comprises a sensor system equipped with a camera and a microphone for detecting human facial expressions, voice tones, and body language. A processor processes the detected data, and a machine learning algorithm, based on a neural network model, is executed to analyze the data and recognize human emotions. An output module enables the robot to respond to recognized emotions through facial expressions, voice tones, or body movements, mimicking human emotions. The system also includes a training module for training the machine learning algorithm using a labeled dataset of human emotions. The method involves detecting and processing human emotional cues, analyzing the data using the machine learning algorithm, and generating appropriate responses based on the recognized emotions. The method may include training the algorithm using labeled data, adjusting responses based on feedback, and incorporating real-time interactions for learning and adaptation."
