MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631043295 A) filed by Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute Of Technology And Sports Complex, Kolkata, West Bengal, on April 4, for 'low cost simple chain lubricating system design.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Hrishiraj Ranjan; Kalyan Mukherjee; Pritam Bhattacharje; and Dr. Saradindu Panda.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a cost-effective, modular chain lubrication system designed for use in automobiles, industrial rigs, farm machinery, and mechatronic systems. The device addresses the complexity and high costs associated with existing lubrication methods by utilizing a simplified gravity and potential-difference based flow mechanism. The system comprises three primary interconnected sections: a static reservoir with a filter for impurity segregation, a flowing funnel mechanism equipped with a spring-loaded parting gate, and a flow-controlling disc with a dripper. The device operates via a handle-actuated disc; when depressed, the parting gate opens to transfer lubricant from a holding chamber to a dispensing chamber. Upon release, a spring return mechanism resets the disc, allowing the lubricant to pass through a specific aperture and drip onto the chain via gravity, viscosity, and surface tension. Key features include a threaded, modular design allowing for individual component replacement, magnetic position holders, and an adjustable flow rate via a bottom cover. The system offers high durability with minimal moving parts and can be manufactured cost-effectively using metal or plastic."
