MUMBAI, India, June 16 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611054354 A) filed by ITS Dental College; Divyanshi Mishra; and Ishank Khaneja, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on April 29, for 'low-cost hybrid intraoral 3d scanning system with ai-based attrition analysis and method thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Divyanshi Mishra; and Ishank Khaneja.

The application for the patent was published on June 5, under issue no. 23/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a low-cost hybrid intraoral scanning system integrated with an artificial intelligence based diagnostic platform for monitoring dental attrition. The system comprises a handheld probe including a near-infrared structured light projector, a micro-actuation mechanism configured to induce sub-pixel displacement of the projected pattern, and synchronized optical sensors for capturing distorted light patterns from dental surfaces. A processing unit generates a high-density three-dimensional mesh using triangulation and frame integration techniques. Sequential scans acquired over time are processed using a longitudinal registration algorithm that aligns models based on stable anatomical landmarks. The system calculates deviation vectors between aligned surfaces to detect enamel wear and generates a quantitative attrition score. The invention enables accurate digital impressions and automated monitoring of tooth wear while maintaining low manufacturing cost and compatibility with standard dental CAD/CAM systems."
