MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641041663 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education, Krishnankoil, Tamil Nadu, on April 1, for 'locomotive obstacle barrier guard with auto adjustable leveler.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. S. Shasi Anand; and Dr. P. Jayakumar.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a locomotive obstacle barrier guard with auto 5 adjustable leveler configured for preventing entry of stones, ballast particles, debris beneath a locomotive structure without modification of an existing train. The invention comprises a metal barrier guard (1) supported by a barrier fixing mount (6) connected to linear expander columns (5) for providing vertical adjustment relative to track surface. Mounting clamps (2), locking adjuster clamps (3), fastening locks (4) enable io secure attachment to an existing locomotive guard structure. A distance sensor (8) measures the gap between the metal barrier guard (1) track surface to maintain clearance within 5 mm to 10 mm. A solar panel (7) generates electrical energy stored in a battery and controller interface (9) for powering sensing adjustment components. The controller interface (9) processes measurement input regulates movement of the 15 linear expander columns (5). The invention improves protection of locomotive underframe components from stones debris present on railway tracks. The device operates independently using renewable energy without affecting existing locomotive systems."
