MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641006646 A) filed by Dayananda Sagar University, Kanakpura, Karnataka, on Jan. 23, for 'lipid carriers for intranasal administration to target brain in the treatment of neuro aids.'
Inventor(s) include Vanaja Kenchappa; and Balaji K.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to proliposomal formulations for effective treatment of Neuro AIDS. It specifically relates to site-specific drug delivery formulations for administration of Atazanavir in the form of proliposome and process for preparation of such proliposomes. The formulation was prepared by solvent evaporation method using Soy phosphatidyl ethanolamine, Cholesterol in ratio of 1:1 to 1:10 and evaluated for Particle size, Zeta potential, Entrapment efficiency, in vitro drug release, in vivo bioavailability studies. Hence, the data obtained from the present investigation revealed that ATZ loaded proliposomes (ATZ-PL) for intranasal administration could be a promising approach for the delivery of Protease Inhibitor in the management of Neuro AIDS in particular helping to control the viral load in the most important anatomical brain reservoir. The stability studies indicated that the proliposomes prepared are stable."
