MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641044112 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 7, for 'kid -friendly spirometer toy for gamified pulmonary rehabilitation in children.'
Inventor(s) include Apoorva Arun; Bharathir; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention discloses a child-tiiendly spirometer toy designed in the form of a dragon, intended to promote effective breathing exercises in paediatric patients undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation. The device comprises a mouthpiece connected to an airt1ow detection system that measures expiratory etlort, airf1ow strength, and duration. Based on the detected airt1ow, the device activates a flame-like visual output using LED animation or coloured ribbon elements positioned near the dragon's mouth or taiL The intensity and size of the flame animation are proportional to the child's expiratory eftort. An embedded microcontroller processes airt1ow data to provide basic lung function indicators such as forced expirat01y etlort and peak expiratory flow trends. Optional sound effects fi1rther enhance engagement. The invention transforms conventional spirometry exercises into an interactive, motivating, and non-threatening activity for children with respiratory conditions, while remaining low-cost, po11able, and easy to maintain."
