MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441034876 A) filed by Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 2, 2024, for 'kalakshetra muttukattam silk saree.'
Inventor(s) include Kalakshetra Foundation.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 7, under issue no. 45/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The silk saree produced by Kalakshetra Foundation, popularly known as Kalakshetra Muttukattam Silk Saree with golden orange and zari muttukattam, and olive green checks with Killu mundi which indicates that the body designs are not continued in the Thalappu (pallu). The 6-meter silk saree has a one inch zari muttukattam with green checks in the body. The saree has warp of golden orange and green for checks, and arakku weft for muttukattam with zari. The Thalappu has designs of set seer, a row of horse with a rider, muttu kamalam, row of elephants, tiger paws design with a kodi in centre and zari reeku. Border: 10 inches The border has orange warp, with green seer line and arakku back ground. The border is self-border with kamalam, vanki and neli with pagudi designs. The Zari design on the border are woven with extra redsilk in the weft, to outline pattern Thalappu: 39 inches The thalappu has warp orange and arakku weft will killu pallu. The designs are horse and rider - 3.5 inches, Muttu seer kamalam - 1.5 inches, Elephant - 2.5 inch, Kamalam kodi - 2.5, and Reku - 6 inches."
