MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441075511 A) filed by Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Oct. 5, 2024, for 'kalakshetra kottadi silk saree.'

Inventor(s) include Kalakshetra Foundation.

The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The Kottadi silk saree produced by Kalakshetra Foundation is a gorgeous black saree with small checks in zari which is aptly accentuated by a araku border with traditional designs. The saree is 5.5 meters (6 yards) with 50 inches width. The warp and weft in the body is black while the border is pinkish araku. Body has checks of 1 cm in zari all over which is termed as kottadi to make it a grand saree, with pillayar moggu near the border. Border : 10 inches - Border is a rettai pettu border of rudraksham with star design; Kamalam; Muttu and Panner sombu. A row of Panneer sombu is highlighted in the border. The highlight is the border has zari border on the outside and a 2.5 meter of thread in the border on the inside which will not be seen while wearing the saree. This way the zari is used effectively only on the borders that will be seen outside while wearing the saree. Thalappu : 39 inches. The thalappu is pitni pallu on both side (inside and outside) - with a simple zari and thread work pallu on the inside and grand zari pallu on the outside. The designs in the pallu are Muttu seer line and a 12 inch Thazambu reku."
