MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631027200 A) filed by Asansol Engineering College, Asansol, West Bengal, on March 9, for 'iot-enabled intelligent medicine box for automated medication adherence monitoring, alerting, and cloud-based record management.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Avishek Banerjee; Dr. Joyshree Maji; and Mr. Gurjeet Singh.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An IoT-enabled intelligent medicine box is provided for automated medication adherence monitoring through gravimetric verification. The system utilizes a precision weight sensor integrated with a microcontroller and an IoT communication module to detect reductions in the weight of stored medications at scheduled intervals. Upon confirmation of weight reduction, the system logs the medication event as a structured CSV record on a cloud server. Conversely, if no weight change is detected within a prescribed time window, the system generates a tiered alert notification for the patient and their caregivers. The invention provides an objective, data-driven solution for monitoring treatment compliance among elderly and chronically ill patients, thereby enhancing patient safety and therapeutic outcomes."
