MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122997 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'iot-driven plant height monitoring and disease prediction system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. G. Aarthi; Ashlin Binshu; Vedant Sunil Raut; and Ashish Singh Rajput.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a plant monitoring system comprising distance measurement means configured to measure distance to a plant surface, angular positioning means configured to establish measurement geometry, processing means configured to calculate plant height, image capture means configured to acquire images of plant parts, a machine learning module configured to classify plant disease states, threshold comparison means configured to compare calculated plant height against predetermined healthy growth parameters, triggering means configured to activate disease detection when plant height falls below predetermined thresholds, and alert means configured to generate notifications when disease conditions are detected. The system operates offline enabling autonomous function without internet connectivity. The distance measurement means comprises an ultrasonic sensor and angular positioning means comprises a servo motor operatively connected to a laser diode. The predetermined threshold is set at 95% of expected healthy plant height."
