MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124589 A) filed by Jerusalem College Of Engineering, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'iot based smart traffic signal system for emergency vehicle priority & accident alert notification.'
Inventor(s) include V. Subha Ramya; Nanthini. V; Ponkavitha. P; and Menaka. D.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention presents an loT-based smart traffic signal system designed to enhance emergency response and road safety through automated traffic control and real-time communication. The system detects approaching emergency vehicles using sensor-based or tag-based identification and immediately switches the corresponding traffic lane to green, ensuring a clear passage and reducing delays during critical situations. In addition, an accident detection module identifies collisions or road obstructions using sensors or camera inputs and instantly sends alert notifications to nearby hospitals and police stations via loT communication networks. The integrated microcontroller, sensor modules, and cloud connectivity allow the system to operate autonomously, support real-time monitoring, and improve overall urban traffic efficiency. This invention contributes to smart city development by enabling faster emergency response, minimizing congestion, and offering data-driven traffic management."
