MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122370 A) filed by Nandha Engineering College, Erode, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'iot-based smart parking with real-time slot detection.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. K. Lalitha; R. Mohammed Anas; S. Devadharshini; and R. Lakshmi.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an ToT-based Community Smart Parking and Rush Detection System designed to address the challenges of unorganized parking, traffic congestion, and lack of real-time parking availability in urban and semi-urban regions. The system integrates simple, lowcost sensing technology with cloud-based data management to provide a scalable and efficient parking solution suitable for local communities, markets, bus stands, commercial complexes, and public spaces. The system uses IR or Ultrasonic sensors installed at individual parking slots to continuously monitor the presence or absence of vehicles. These sensors are connected to a Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller, such as an ESP32 or NodeMCU, which processes detection signals and transmits updated slot statuses free or occupied to a Firebase Realtime Database. The cloud platform ensures instant synchronization of data and supports multi-location monitoring under a single unified framework. A dedicated web application has been developed with two access roles: an Admin interface for creating parking locations, defining slot structures, and managing temporary or permanent slot types and a User interface for viewing available parking spaces, searching nearby locations, and navigating via. integrated Google Maps links. The application provides an intuitive dashboard that displays real-time occupancy, rush density, and slot-level details for each parking area. The system architecture is designed to minimize false detection through threshold-based logic and stable sensordata processing. By enabling fast, accurate, and accessible parking information without the need for complex infrastructure or expensive hardware, the system offers a practical solution for improving space utilization, reducing traffic congestion, and saving driver time. Its modular design allows easy expansion to multiple zones and future integration with payment gateways, analytics modules, and mobile applications. The invention contributes to modem smart-city initiatives by providing a reliable and cost-effective parking management mechanism that can be deployed even in small towns and community clusters."
