According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The project "IoT-Based Smart Monitoring System for Resource Optimization in Sugar Mills" aims to improve the effectiveness, sustainability, and output of sugar production processes. This project mainly focuses on creating an intelligent system which employs IoT to monitor, analyze, and optimize the usage of important resources, including water, steam, and electricity, 24/7 within a sugar mill. In the methods section, sensors enabled by IoT will be used to connect and monitor specific stages within the sugar process, such as the boiler, turbine, and processing stages, allowing real-time data collection of various parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, motor speed, power). The data can be relayed via wireless communication protocols (e.g., MQTT or LoRaWAN) to the cloud, where it can be analyzed. The new system will utilize machine learning to assess this information for predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and performance optimization processes. The proposed system will also include a dashboard view for the user on mobile devices and tablets (e.g., iPads) that allows for alert updating, real time visualization, and analytical insights for decision-making. The discussion for the project explains the key takeaways of the study which showed that the IoT based system transformed the operational efficiency of a sugar mill by reducing energy and water waste, facilitating predictive maintenance to eliminate production downtime, enhancing overall efficiency of resource usage, and facilitating regulatory compliance for emissions and fuel efficiency measures. This invention provides a holistic, data-driven solution for technology modernization of sugar mills. Through a combination of IoT technology and analytics, it encourages sustainability in the industrial sector while providing more real-time control, better decision-making, and lower production costs. The technology may also be adapted, restructured, and expanded to industries such as cement, textiles, and food processing to achieve further optimization and sustainability."
