MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133550 A) filed by Dr. Mahalingam College Of Engineering And Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'iot-based smart bed automatic cuffless blood pressure monitor.'

Inventor(s) include Nagarajan J; Abiswasthika S; Parvatha Varthini T; Soundarya S; Boomiga S; and Mridini S G.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A smart bed system with an loT-based auto, continuous, and noninvasive cuffless bloodpressure monitoring on patients. The system has multimodal biometric sensors such as ballistocardiography sensors, capacitive pressure sensors, and contact-less heart-signal detection modules that are embedded in the mattress or bed frame in order to measure cardiovascular and physiological data when the patient is resting. The processing unit takes pulse transit time, heart rate, and vibration based features of sensed data and approximates systolic and diastolic blood pressure using calibrated algorithms and machine learning models. Posture and motion detection module will provide accuracy in the measurements by rejecting invalid measurements when there is too much motion. The recorded data of the blood-pressure are sent using an interactive interface with an loT platform to a remote medical platform to monitor, analyze trends and generate alerts in real time. The proposed syi;)tem allows the non-inflatable, non-wearable, and comfortable blood-pressure to be monitored passively, and so is appropriate in the elderly, bedridden, chronic-care monitoring and in the hospital or home-hospital setting."
