MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521093489 A) filed by Jai Narain College Of Technology, Lambakheda, Madhya Pradesh, on Sept. 29, 2025, for 'iot-based framework for smart energy management in residential and industrial buildings.'

Inventor(s) include Pradeep Kumar Pandey; Kalpana Mishra; Dilip Ahirwar; Suraj Bhan Dangi; Ruchi Chaturvedi; Priyanka Thakur; Rani Kushwaha; and Amit Kumar Sahu.

The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "IoT-Based Framework for Smart Energy Management in Residential and Industrial Buildings The present invention discloses an Internet of Things (IoT)-based framework designed for efficient and intelligent energy management in residential and industrial buildings. The invention integrates a network of IoT-enabled smart meters, sensors, and communication devices to collect real-time data on energy usage, environmental conditions, and occupancy levels. This information is transmitted securely to a cloud-based platform, where it is processed and analyzed to provide accurate insights into energy consumption patterns. The system addresses the limitations of conventional energy management methods by offering real-time visibility, data-driven decision-making, and automation capabilities. The framework incorporates an intelligent decision-making engine powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms. These algorithms analyze historical and real-time data to forecast energy demand, identify inefficiencies, and generate predictive control strategies. Automated commands are then issued to smart switches, relays, and controllers, enabling the system to regulate appliances, HVAC systems, lighting, and industrial machinery. The ability to forecast peak demand, optimize load scheduling, and reduce idle energy consumption significantly enhances operational efficiency and lowers energy costs. In addition to its core functions, the invention supports seamless integration with renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power, as well as with energy storage systems. This allows for optimized energy distribution between grid power and renewable resources, contributing to sustainable practices and reducing dependency on conventional energy. A mobile and web-based application provides users with intuitive dashboards, reports, and alerts, along with manual control options. The framework is scalable, adaptable, and capable of deployment across both small residential units and large industrial infrastructures, thereby offering a comprehensive solution for smart energy management."
