MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541121085 A) filed by Nandha Engineering College, Vaikkaalmedu, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 3, 2025, for 'iot based automatic paddy storage rain protection system.'

Inventor(s) include M Shanmugham; Pavithraa; E. Meena; and G. J. Vishnu Priyadharshne.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention proposes an IoT-based automated protection system designed to safeguard paddy and grain storage areas from unexpected rainfall. The system incorporates a Retractable Roof Sheet (1), Rain Detector (2)s Micro controller (3), Buzzers and Lights (4), Power Button (5), LCD Display (6), IoT Module (7), Agriculture Field (8), and Linear Actuator/Servo Motor (9). When the Rain Detector (2) senses rainfall, it sends a signal to the Micro controller (3), which immediately activates the Actuator/Motor (9) to extend the Roof Sheet (1) over the Agriculture Field (8). The Buzzers and Lights (4) provide local alerts, while the LCD Display (6) shows system status. The IoT Module (7) sends notifications to the farmer for remote monitoring. After rainfall stops, the Micro controller (3) retracts the Roof Sheet (1), ensuring natural drying. This cost- effective invention enhances crop safety through automation and real-time monitoring."
